Free Carbon Monoxide & Community Safety Training: 11th November

Supporting Local Safety: Free Carbon Monoxide & Energy Support Session from Northern Cancer Voices

At Do Business Network (DBN), we are always keen to highlight the vital work being done by organisations across our region. That is why we are pleased to help spread the word about an upcoming online training session delivered by our friends at Northern Cancer Voices.

On 11th November, Northern Cancer Voices is hosting a free session in partnership with Northern Gas Networks as part of their ongoing "Treat, Heat or Eat" project. The initiative was set up after hearing directly from cancer patients who faced tough choices between accessing treatment, heating their homes, or buying food.

Having worked alongside Northern Cancer Voices last year to help deliver a Carbon Monoxide safety workshop, we know firsthand how valuable, practical, and well-received their session is. We strongly encourage our network members to sign up and help share details of this session within their own communities.

What Will the Session Cover?

Delivered directly by the team at Northern Cancer Voices, this 30–45 minute online session is designed to help people stay safe, warm, and well over winter. It will cover:

  • Carbon Monoxide Awareness: Identifying household appliances that can produce CO, recognizing signs of poisoning, understanding high-risk groups, and the critical importance of CO alarms.

  • Priority Services Register (PSR): Practical guidance on how eligible households can access free priority support during energy emergencies.

  • Q&A & Next Steps: Interactive time to ask questions, alongside post-training assessments.

Who Should Attend?

This free session hosted by Northern Cancer Voices is ideal for:

  • Anyone seeking practical energy advice or looking to learn more about winter home safety

  • People living with cancer, a chronic illness, disability, long-term health condition, or mental health diagnosis, as well as their carers

  • Pensioners and older adults

  • Families expecting a child or raising young children

  • Individuals who rely on powered medical equipment at home

  • Community leaders, workplace contacts, and network members looking to share safety information with others
