Wednesday 15th July, 5:30 to 8:30pm
Following the incredible success of our inaugural summer event last year, the Do Business Network community is heading back to the water. We are absolutely excited to invite you all to our 2026 Summer BBQ at the Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club (DRSC) on Wednesday 15th July.
If you missed out last year, or if you are new to our community, here is a look back at what made it so special and a preview of what we have lined up for this summer.
A Look Back: Clear Skies and Great Conversation
Last year, over 50 local business owners and professionals from across the North East stepped away from their desks to join us by the reservoir. The weather was firmly on our side, providing clear skies and a stunning backdrop for a fantastic evening.
Instead of traditional business settings, the focus was entirely on relaxed, genuine connection. Between trips out on the water in the Drascombe boat and plenty of fantastic food from the grill, we watched meaningful conversations form naturally. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with everyone appreciating the chance to catch up with familiar faces and meet a brilliant variety of local entrepreneurs in an informal atmosphere.
What to Expect for 2026
This year, we are aiming to make the evening even better. We have locked in the same fantastic venue, and the grill will be fired up with a brilliant BBQ selection for everyone.
Here is what you can look forward to this July:
Supervised Sailing: Once again, you will have the opportunity to take to the water and experience the reservoir. Whether you are a seasoned sailor or have never stepped onto a boat before, it is fully supervised by the experienced team at the sailing club, offering a safe and memorable way to enjoy the scenery.
Food & Drink: Complimentary soft drinks and a full BBQ are provided for all attendees. If you fancy a drink of something a bit stronger, the venue's bar will be open throughout the evening.
Mucking In: It is a real community effort this year—Rob is heading up the grill, while Melanie and David will be mucking in to keep things running smoothly. (If you fancy lending a hand for a short spell on the food prep or taking a turn on the bar, do let us know!)
Why Informal Networking Works
Building a strong professional network is about building trust, and that often happens much faster over a burger and a boat trip than it does through cold calls or formal pitches.
The DBN Summer BBQ is the perfect environment to discuss current market challenges, share local expertise, and discover new regional opportunities without the pressure of a boardroom setup.
