It is a challenging time for HR managers and business owners across all sectors right now.

The aftermath of Covid-19 has seen a rise in unfair dismissal claims, with many employers left questioning how this could have happened having followed all of the Government guidance at the time.  As a nation we are also in the grip of a cost-of-living crisis in which many employers are struggling to balance the duty of care that they owe to their employees alongside the demands of running a business in the face of rising costs and continued economic uncertainty.

These turbulent times can feel overwhelming, especially with Employment Law changes in the pipeline. With this in mind, Business Durham and Swinburne Maddison have partnered up to deliver an informative and engaging seminar, packed with practical tips and advice for navigating the year ahead.

The morning will be comperéd by David Low, Partner in the Dispute Resolution team at Swinburne Maddison LLP, with Hazel Sykes, Business Engagement and Account Manager at Business Durham, on hand to introduce Business Durham and share details of future events.

Sharney Randhawa, Managing Associate in Swinburne Maddison’s Employment team, will take a dive into the latest updates around flexible working, special leave and the controversial Strike Action Bill.  Sharney will also discuss the Government’s recent response to the Women and Equalities Committee’s report on menopause as well as the new employment related consultations launched by the Government this year.

Managing Partner and Head of the Employment team at Swinburne Maddison, Jonathan Moreland, will provide insight into some recent and interesting cases, relating to discrimination, Covid-19, unfair dismissals and flexible working.
