You may have read that Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, has submitted a formal expression of interest to the Department for Transport to request feasibility study for a potential new rail transport link between Consett and Newcastle. The application was raised during a question at Prime Minister’s Questions, where he got the support of the Prime Minister for the application.
We think that it could be very good for the local economy and will benefit businesses, residents and visitors too. We’d love to hear what you think about the proposal. You can read more on Richard’s website.
If the feasibility study bid is successful, the feasibility study would receive 75% of the funds to conduct it from the Government’s new “Beeching fund”, which is part of the government’s drive to re-open former rail routes.
