He added, "This is the 33rd year that the Leek Show has been hosted by Beamish Museum alongside the Shield Row Allotment Society and it forms part of the Beamish Agricultural event.
The car we were chauffeured round in is an Armstrong Whitworth built in the early 1900’s for the Japanese Emperor as a sweetener in a deal for Battleships during the Russo-Japanese war. The deal fell through and it was bought by a doctor from Edinburgh for £800! With the average weekly wage at less than a £1 at the time that probably makes it the equivalent of something like a Bugatti Chiron in today’s money!! That’s a replica, but they have the real one in Beamish.
