It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Monica Frieda Anderton (also known as Monica Gibbs). Monica passed away peacefully at the Freeman Hospital on 4th February 2026, aged 78, following a short illness.
While many in our community knew her as a vibrant character and a loyal friend, Monica’s contribution to the Do Business Network went far deeper than many might realise.
A Legacy of Quiet Dedication
Monica was a foundational part of DBN from its very first days. For many years, she served as our Secretary, operating with professional precision and a quiet modesty that defined her character. She did not seek the limelight, yet her influence was woven into the very fabric of the network.
Her professional background was extensive; she was a highly respected Clerk and Secretary to numerous parish councils, trusts, and business organisations across Northumberland and Durham. DBN was fortunate to benefit from that wealth of experience. Her commitment to our values was unwavering, and she worked tirelessly in the background to ensure our community remained strong.
A Character Who Will Be Missed
Beyond her administrative expertise, Monica was a true "character" in every sense of the word. Those members who had the pleasure of knowing her will remember her warmth, her sharp mind, and her genuine belief in the power of local business connection.
As we reflect on her life, we are reminded that the strength of an organisation often lies in the hands of those who support it with the most care. Monica was one of those rare individuals who gave her time and heart to the things she truly believed in. She had a way of making everyone feel seen and supported, quietly ensuring that the network was a place where people felt they belonged.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her daughter, Tanya, and her family and friends during this sad time. Monica will be sorely missed by all who knew her, and we remain immensely grateful for the years we spent working alongside her.
